This week at Carrington, we join communities around the world in recognising International Women’s Day and celebrating the contribution of women across our organisation, the aged care sector and the wider community.

Women play an essential role in the care sector. Across Australia and around the world, they make up a significant majority of the aged care workforce. From nurses and carers to allied health professionals, hospitality teams and support staff, women bring compassion, expertise and dedication to the people they support every day.

Their work extends well beyond formal roles. Women have long played a central role in caring for family members, friends and communities in informal settings. Across generations and cultures, women have often been the ones who provide comfort, advocacy, and practical support to those who need it most. In many ways, the modern care sector has grown from this tradition of community and family care.

At Carrington, we see the impact of this every day. Women across our organisation help create a welcoming and supportive environment for residents, customers and families. Through kindness, patience and professionalism, they help ensure that every person who walks through our doors feels respected, safe and valued.

Female leadership is also an important part of our efforts to continue strengthening our services.

Executive Leadership at Carrington

Emma Giddy leads our Residential Aged Care services, working closely with care teams to maintain high standards of clinical care and resident wellbeing.

Vicki Martins leads our Community Care services, supporting older Australians to remain independent and connected within their own homes and communities.

Ruth Bunby leads our Quality, Risk and Assurance function, supporting strong governance, continuous improvement and alignment with national aged care standards.

Beyond executive leadership, women across Carrington contribute in many ways. Our customer service teams are often the first people residents and families meet when they connect with Carrington. Their warmth, professionalism and willingness to help shape the experience people have with our organisation.

Our carers and frontline teams are the heart of Carrington. They build trusted relationships with residents and families and demonstrate leadership every day through the care, respect and compassion they show in their work.

One way we recognise this leadership in action is through our new Encouragement Cards initiative. These cards allow leaders to acknowledge colleagues who demonstrate Carrington’s values through acts of kindness, teamwork, leadership and support. Many of the cards recognise the everyday leadership shown by women across our teams who go above and beyond for residents, customers and one another.

The contribution of women in aged care reflects a much broader impact on society. Women continue to lead and support communities through both professional and informal caring roles. Their work strengthens families, supports vulnerable people and helps create more connected communities.

As we mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, Carrington thanks and celebrates all women across our organisation and the wider care community. Your compassion, leadership and dedication make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we care for every day.
