Today all four facilities came together in the Recreation Hall to enjoy a morning of socialising and Latin dancing.
Rene and Lyndsay are a local couple from Grasmere who are passionate about dance. They put on several performances for us, including the Salsa, Bachata and Merengue.
Residents and staff got involved in trying out the moves in their chairs or taking to the stage to show off their skills. There was lots of laughter and smiles from everyone and some facilities will be booking them in for future dance lessons. We look forward to seeing Rene and Lyndsay out at Carrington again very soon!
This month, Grasmere Terrace were lucky enough to have Carol volunteer her time and bring in her reborn dolls for the residents to hold, cuddle, and talk to. Many memories were discussed between the residents as they shared stories from their past.
Carol kindly donated one of her dolls for the residents in the facility- it will become part of the Carrington family. The reborn dolls are not only a delight for the eyes, but also a very unique piece of craftsmanship that is incredibly realistic and life like. Reborn dolls are increasingly being used in an aged care setting, as they help female and male residents with reliving past memories.
Thank you Carol for your time! Pictured below are some of our Grasmere Terrace residents with the reborn dolls.
We recently had the opportunity to put on a Retail Therapy morning for our residents in the Recreation Hall. Residents from all four of our facilities were able to pick up some bargains from Bloom’s Pharmacy, Ma and Pa’s Fashion, and The Body Shop.
The residents were assisted by family and staff to try on clothes and shoes, with some lucky enough to receive a relaxing hand massage with some of the scented hand creams at the Body Shop Stall.
After a morning of shopping, the residents sat together and enjoyed a cuppa, cake, and a chat. It was a successful morning, and we are looking forward to potentially setting up some stalls in each facility for special events such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Our next Facility Group Day will be on Thursday 28th March where residents will be able to watch (and participate if they wish), in some Latin Dancing. Residents will also have the opportunity to book private dance lessons at a later date.
Thank you to the staff from Bloom’s Pharmacy, Ma and Pa’s Fashion, and The Body Shop for making this day so special for our residents.
We absolutely love the partnerships that we’ve built with local preschools and day cares in the area. It’s so wonderful to see our residents interacting with the children every time they go to visit. Residents from Grasmere Terrace in particular very much enjoy their visits to Elderslie Early Learning Centre, which they undertake on a monthly basis.
On their most recent visit, the residents interacted with the children by playing ball/catch, and helped with the building of magnet structures. After the activities had ended, everyone came together to share lunch.
It was great to hear from the children as well, who read stories with the residents and shared some of their favourite songs in a sing-along.
